I work as a receptionist at a salon and we offer long-term hair extensions. The extensions you'll want will be tiny, individual clumps of hair with a protein bond at the end. That bond is heated, melted and "fused" to your hair, close to the scalp. Because they're totally customizable, you could start with just a few rows trimmed to the length of your hair to make your hair thicker, or you could do your entire head and keep them long. The best kind of extensions will be "100% human hair" so you can style them, color them, etc. They'll also look the most natural. You'll also want to feel a swatch of them first. They should be soft and feel like your own hair. One warning, they're VERY expensive. Our extensions START at $800 and can go up to $1500 depending on how many you put in.

Once they're in, they'll last for several months. You'll need to braid your hair in a loose braid before bed so they don't get tangled and you'll only want to wash your hair once every 2 or 3 days.
